Smallmouth Bass |
This smallmouth bass was just shy of four pounds. It put up a real nice fight on 4lb test line and on one of my custom built ultralite rods. She was caught right off of the dock in about 12 feet of water using a 4 inch Hawg Craw, pumkinseed in color. Once the Craw touched bottom, it took only a few light twitches to entice this bass to do her thing. After this photo she went right back in to fight another day.

Largemouth Bass |

This largemouth bass was caught right after the smallie above. This bass was also just under 3.5 lbs and also caught on the same rod and 4lb test line. The only difference here was that this fish was taken on a 7 inch Power Worm, purple and black in color. This fish also lived to fight another day. Pound for pound I think the smallmouth faught much harder. She went airborne three times and then dug for the bottom to get back into the crib I enticed her out of. Once hooked, the largemouth came right out of the water and the remaining fight ensued pretty much just below or right on the surface. They were both Beautiful hard fighting fish and a pisser to catch on the ultralite stuff.
